One Day on the 405 Freeway

One day on the 405 Freeway on my way to a therapy session (while my car was over-heating in snail crawl traffic)  I got it!  Yes, he had gotten me good! But I could handle this. Twenty-two years with Mr. Urban-Urbane had taught me to fight. Then,  then came a terrorist attack on my main man! I must go back to him! Mr. Smooth wasn’t giving up easily. I had a fight with one of his ’97 Pontiacs running a red light in the rain while I crossed a street. It sent me to hospitals and rehab for six months of learning to walk again” –told you “Soothe & Smooth” was a killer. I wound up crooning to my crushed leg, often. I also became focused, centered and philosophical because there was plenty of time to evaluate my life. I was wiser and older and Mr. Smooth hated aging women. And now there was a war. My country was at war! (Medley) My final plea with Mr. Urbane to forgive me for deserting him and preparing for forgiveness and looking to the future. It was agreed that this had to be. 0 Farewell Concert

This is a partial recording of my last concert in Los Angeles. It was a magical evening of excitement and emotion. this was not only an evening of farewell to my many friends made in this city, but on of gratitude to them (all listeners) and God that resides in us all. I had experienced a decade of challenges as well as kindness and love as well as spiritual and musical growth. I was especially grateful that evening to walk, stand and actually dance before a receptive audience after recovering from being hit by a car two years before. I was accompanied on stage by my Godson, Michael Milligan, Jr. ( I had witnessed and was honored to have sung to him upon his leaving his mother’s womb  a short eight years prior. He had awed me by  opening his yes, looking toward me and giving a wide smile to the amazement of the entire delivery room staff! This was documented on his father’s video-cam.)

Jazz Quotes

I want to be a force for real good. In other words, I know there are bad forces that bring suffering to others and misery to the world but I want to be the opposite force which is truly for good. John Coltrane
